Capri doesn't have sandy beaches. The island's coastline is almost entirely rocky cliffs and grottos, which is exactly why pool day passes in Capri are worth knowing about. Several hotels and beach clubs offer saltwater pools carved into the rocks, garden pools with panoramic views, and infinity pools overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Beach clubs and saltwater pools
Most of Capri's pools aren't your typical hotel rectangles. La Canzone del Mare in Marina Piccola has two saltwater pools (one shaped like the island itself) that date back to the 1950s Dolce Vita era. Over on the western coast, Lido del Faro sits at the foot of the Punta Carena lighthouse with a rock-cut pool that catches sun from dawn to dusk.
Both are beach clubs rather than hotels, so day access is their main business. Expect to pay €70 to €90 for a sunbed, pool access, and changing facilities.
Hotel pools open to non-guests
If you're after something quieter, two options stand out. Luxury Villa Excelsior Parco is a small Art Nouveau hotel near the port that sells day passes to its garden pool and jacuzzi for €80. Book through their website in advance since spots are limited.
Da Gelsomina in Anacapri is the most affordable option at just €20. It's a family-run restaurant in the countryside with a large panoramic pool. They run a free shuttle from Anacapri centre, and the pool is open from mid-May to late September.
The luxury option
Il Riccio at the Jumeirah Capri Palace is the island's most upscale pool experience. The infinity pool sits next to the Blue Grotto with direct sea views. Access starts at €120 and typically requires a lunch reservation at their Michelin-starred restaurant.
How Capri compares to nearby destinations
Capri's pool scene is smaller but more exclusive than what you'll find along the Amalfi Coast. If you want more options or lower prices, the Amalfi Coast has a wider range of beach clubs. For a completely different setting, Lake Como offers freshwater lido pools with mountain views. And if you're heading to the islands, Sardinia and Sicily both have larger hotel pool selections.
When to go
Pool season in Capri runs from May to October, with July and August being the busiest (and most expensive) months. June and September offer warm weather, lower prices, and smaller crowds. Most beach clubs and hotel pools close entirely from November to April.
